"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is the sequel to the highly acclaimed "Kingsman", which was a spy comedy that starred Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, and Taron Egerton. While the first film was set primarily in London, this one takes places primarily in America. Younger sister of Harry Hart (the protagonist from the first film), Ginger Ale, plans to overthrow her drug lord father by recruiting Eggsy's assistance to help establish Kingsmen franchises throughout North America. It also focuses on the efforts of Harry Hart, who has joined forces with their American counterparts, Statesman to bring down the drug lord, Poppy. There are some spoilers ahead!
Eggsy is back in this film and he has started to settle down with Princess Tilde (Hanna Alström) but that does not last for long. While he is spending time with his girlfriend in Sweden, Harry Harts' former colleague informs him of the whereabouts of Harry Harts' killer, Charlie Hesketh (Oliver Markham) however, things start to go wrong when they attempt to transfer him to a safe house in Britain. In his attempt to save Princess Tilde from a burning building, Eggsy's girlfriend is kidnapped and drug lord Poppy Adams (Julianne Moore) demands that Harry Hart's younger sister, Ginger Ale (Halle Berry), is brought to the United States as a prisoner in exchange for rescuing her. Things have been made worse as they abduct Harry Harts' younger sister and now, she is being held prisoner in a Kentucky Brothel. They have a mission to save Harry Harts' younger sister and Kingsman franchise in the United States. The movie was released on 16 September 2017 around the world with an estimated budget of $104 million. The film grossed $61,857,504 in the United Kingdom, $36,841,915 in North America and $108,899,420 elsewhere resulting in a worldwide gross of $240 million. The film received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has an approval rating of 52% based on reviews from 180 critics. The consensus reads: ""Kingsman: The Golden Circle" offers more of what made its predecessor so much fun – but it isn't quite as fresh the second time around." On Metacritic the film has a score of 53 out of 100 based on reviews from 36 critics. "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" was released on DVD and Blu-ray on 25 October 2017 in the United Kingdom.
By the end of August, 2015, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" began production at Pinewood Studios with film director Matthew Vaughn producing. This marks Vaughn's first directorial effort since his critically acclaimed "Kick-Ass". On 14 April 2016, the first official trailer was released for "Kingsman: The Secret Service" featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Richmond Valentine alongside Taron Egerton as Eggsy and Colin Firth as Harry Hart. The second trailer for the film released on YouTube on 12 May 2016.
